Everyone has dark days when only depressing and destructive thoughts come to mind, and life seems to be meaningless. At this time, the writers Esther and Jerry Hicks suggest taking a sheet of paper and a pen and trying the Focus-Wheel method. Trust us, it really helps you get things done.
First, draw a large circle on the sheet of paper. Then draw a smaller circle, about 5 cm in diameter, in the center of the large circle. Sit back, relax, and look closely at the little circle. Feel how your eyes focus upon it.
Now, close your eyes for a moment and turn your attention to the events that caused the negative emotions. Define exactly what you don’t want to do or try again.
So it’s time to say to yourself, “I definitely know what I don’t want. So what do I want?”
Try to clearly identify what you want. Remember to be guided by how you want to feel the situation. State your wish in a short sentence and write it in a small circle. It will be the center of your Focus-Wheel.
Outside the perimeter of the small circle, write your thoughts about your goal, the results of your achievement, and the things that improve your mood. Keep writing them on the perimeter of the large circle. Start at 12 o’clock (imagine you are looking at a clock) and write clockwise for up to 1 hour, 2 hours, and so on, until you have 12 statements that give you positive emotions.
For example, let’s say you desperately want to lose weight. Write that goal in the center of the small circle. Then write down all your motivations in the sectors so that, when you reach the last sector, you already feel that you have the skills to achieve your goal. We have no doubt that you can do this!
The Focus-Wheel method is so effective because you have already consciously chosen the statements that you are writing. They represent the beliefs that you have always considered appropriate for you and correspond to your wishes.
By concentrating on the goal in the center of the wheel, you will find more and more evidence that all your intentions can come true. You can get everything you want, just take the first step!
