If you were asked to choose between something natural and its man-made replica, you would probably choose the natural product. We believe that natural products are better than artificial alternatives. But is this really the case? And are we able to distinguish the differences between them?
We created a list of 6 things that most people consider 100% natural when, in fact, they are man-made or in some way altered by humans. Let’s see if you can tell them apart.
The Amazon Basin
The Amazon Basin is known for its unique and diverse flora and fauna, but it is not as natural as you might imagine. The investigation found that the area was reshaped by human intervention.
The Amazonians built dams, made canals, and planted trees that were essential for their existence and all this in harmony with nature so that both nature and man could prosper.
Smog
Smog forms when the level of air pollution increases to the point of creating conditions similar to smoky fog. Smog is especially dangerous for the health of the elderly, children, and people with heart and lung problems.
Morning Glory Pool
Yellowstone National Park’s Morning Glory Pool is an attraction that attracts many tourists who think that the pool’s distinctive color is a natural phenomenon. This is far from true. In the 1960s, the color of the pool was blue due to bacteria that inhabit the water.
Tourists who visited the hot springs threw coins, stones, and all kinds of garbage into the Morning Glory Pool, causing the pool’s temperature to drop, causing the sunlight to react differently to the pool’s ecology.
That is why the pool has changed color to the bright hues of yellow, green, and blue that we see today.
Climate Change
We often say that the climate is changing. But this statement is not exactly correct. We must say that the climate is changing to the extent that the change is occurring by human activity and not by the will of nature.
It is time for all of us to join hands to at least slow down the pace of this change and, if possible, reverse the change.
Spiders
Although rapid urbanization has been detrimental to most species, destroying their habitat and replacing them with concrete forests to serve the growing human population, few species have been able to adapt to the new conditions and thrive in them.
The golden orb weaver spider is one of them. These spiders grow and reproduce faster, all thanks to big cities.
Some Earthquakes
Whenever an earthquake strikes, we almost always blame the fury of nature for wreaking havoc on human lives.
But it is not always nature’s fault. In recent times, human activities such as oil drilling, dam building, and hydraulic fracturing have caused terrible earthquakes, including the one in India caused by the construction of the Koyna Dam, a disaster that claimed 177 lives and left 50,000 homeless.
