It’s no secret that many of us are addicted to the pursuit of success. We spend our lives working toward goals that we believe will make us happy.

We save to buy a house, a car or nice clothes. Our goal is a promotion at work. We are looking for the perfect soulmate. We look for experiences that bring emotion to our life.

At the root of it all, we pursue the desire for happiness. But once we reach our goals, a predictable pattern occurs.

  • Our satisfaction is surprisingly fleeting.
  • What we once wanted is no longer enough to make us feel happy.
  • We feel compelled to level up our game.
  • We set our sights on bigger, more audacious goals.

It is important to pursue and achieve goals. However, when you are too competitive, happiness is linked to success in a way that can prevent satisfaction with life.

When will you achieve enough to be happy?

Many people think that happiness and success are proportional to each other. This is not the case. Research shows that happy people are much more likely to bring success into their lives.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success!

Here are eight ways to maintain a happy outlook while pursuing success in life.

When you’re competitive, it pays to “take a time out” every so often to reflect on things. Remember where you began to appreciate how much you accomplished along the way.

Be Present:

Try to be aware that you live in the present and to appreciate all the wonderful things in your life. By the way, calm your racing mind. Stop and smell the roses to feel happy.

Be Silly:

Successful people in all walks of life maintain a youthful sense of fun in their work as adults. Remember to be silly and have fun!

Be Realistic:

The more realistic and achievable your goals are, the more likely you are to feel good about yourself.

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others:

We all move through life at our own pace. Take inspiration from others and imitate them. Don’t feel that your accomplishments are worthless in negative comparison.

Be Sociable:

Optimism like pessimism can be contagious. Surround yourself with as many positive and uplifting people as possible.

Be Patient:
Adopt healthy and respectful relationships. Be nice to your family and friends. You will feel good about your efforts.

Be Rested:

Have a good night’s sleep. A balance between sleep, healthy eating, and regular exercise is essential for a happy life.
