English as the main subject
Students with a degree equivalent to a Swedish kandidatexamen where English is the main subject can continue their education without IELTS. It should also be noted that if a candidate requires more than one degree to fulfill the requirement for a degree equivalent to a Swedish kandidatexamen, for example, a 2-year bachelor’s degree and a 2-year master’s degree, in both the degrees English has to be the main subject
60 credits EU/EEA or Switzerland
Students with 60 ECTS credits or equivalent credits from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland where English was the language of instruction for the course can study at universities in Sweden without taking IELTS.
The language of instruction must be clearly mentioned on all official documents. Please also note that these credits must not be from a preparatory program or introductory-level English courses.
60 credits other countries
Students with the equivalent of 60 ECTS credits from the US, New Zealand, Australia, Jamaica, or English-speaking parts of Canada meet the English requirement without IELTS.

African countries
Students with a 3-year bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Swedish candidate from the above countries meet the English language requirement for entry to Swedish universities: Eritrea, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Gambia, Kenya, Liberia, Lesotho, Namibia, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Swaziland, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
India and Pakistan
Students from India and Pakistan with a Bachelor’s degree equivalent to a Swedish candidate in Engineering, Computer Applications, Computer Science, Natural Science or Technology, Medicine, and Pharmacy have documented that the language of instruction was English and can study in Sweden without IELTS.
A bachelor’s degree in information technology and a bachelor’s degree in technology from Pakistan will not be considered English language requirements. A Bachelor’s degree from the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science, and Technology (FUUAST) should also not be considered to meet the English requirement unless it is clearly stated in the official graduation document that English was the language of instruction.
